Abstract

The scientific interest about the use of private tuition in basic education has increased substantially in recent years, especially at the international level. These classes offers after-school activities that are intended to supplement or expand knowledge on curricular subjects. This type of education is known as Shadow Education, because it accompanies formal education as if it were its own shadow. In Spain the studies on this topic are still scarce and they lack of a suitable instrument that is both reliable and valid. This article reports the steps for the translation and cultural adaptation of a survey about the use of private tutoring and describes the process used for its validation.
