Abstract

Jaén was, during the Spanish Civil War, the capital of the Republican Andalusia and the Army of the South, and there we find writers such as Miguel Hernández, Pedro Garfias, José Herrera Petere and Andrés Martínez de León, all of them working for the Speaker of the Southern Front. Antonio Oliver and Carmen Conde were also in the city. We cannot forget those who already resided there, led by Rafael Porlán. Writers born in Jaén such as Manuel Andújar and Juan Pérez Creus developed their writing "extraterritorially". Enough attention has never been paid to this double fact. This collective volume is presented as a necessary and almost pioneering contribution to the study of this network of literary relationships woven around Jaén, placing the city as a geographical, literary and symbolic space of reference in the Republic of Arts.
