Abstract

La Filosofía cortesana (Court Philosophy) is an adaptation from “The Game of Goose” to the life of the Court of the end of the XVIth century. Alonso de Barros knew to build, in the spiral journey of the players towards the Palm of Victory, a representation of the difficulties which any pretender could face on him aim to improve the state. This courtly compendium comprises the first themed goose and takes advantage, apart from the pedagogical and ludic values of the imagery, in the growth of a national symbol. In order to conduct this study, a first critical edition of the text is provided and its biographic and social implications are analysed from the methodology of the studies of the Court, recounting, likewise, with unpublished archival research. All that will contribute to enlighten significantly the meaning and relevance of this text, which is representative of the Castilian faction ideology, which praises for work
