Abstract

Stereotypes are sets of traits attributed to individuals by belonging to a professional or social group, despite the individualities existing in each of its members. Ageism is the set of stereotypes, attitudes and negative prejudices towards the elderly. Ageism is the third cause of discrimination in society. This study aims to analyze the presence of negative stereotypes towards aging in the university population of Jaén and to find if there are statistically significant differences between the different variables of the study. It is a quantitative descriptive transversal study. The study will be carried out in the university population of Jaén during an academic course. Study subjects are 377 students at the University of Jaen 18-30 years who speak Spanish and conform to participation in the study. The presence of negative stereotypes will be measured with a validated questionnaire, the questionnaire of negative stereotypes towards old age (CENVE). The variables that are considered most important in this study are the cohabitation, or not, with people over 65 years and to be studying the health studies in the University.
