Resumen

The latest Jurassic and early Cretaceous rocks assigned to the Subbetic Intermediate Domaincrop out extensively in the Cuadros River area, south of Bedmar, in the Jaén province. A detailed biostratigraphic study, mainly based on nannofossils but also including ammonite and calpionelliddata, has been performed on 16 partial sections within these materials. As a result, a detailed chronostratigraphy on all sections was developed than permitted us to correlate and make comparisons between them. Two stratigraphic breaks, whose associated hiatuses cover a variable time span depending on locations, were detected in the early Cretaceous materials. Also, sections located south of the Cuadros anticline showed much thicker early Cretaceous sequences, with local development of breccias and slumps, that those located north of it. All this indicates that a differential subsidence between both locations, probably due to tectonic causes, wasactuating, at least, during most of the early Cretaceous.
