Abstract

Here we report the discovery of an unarticulated skeleton of a marine crocodile from the lower Berriasian of the Cârceles-Carluco Intermediate unit of the Betic External-Zones. The skeleton is enclosed into a nodular limestone, which shows oxides and lithofagous burrows in the bedding plane. The two families of marine crocodiles (Teleosauridae and Metriorhynchidae) have been found in littoral environments, reinforcing the palaeogeographic hypothesis of a stage of uplifted landmasses in this area during the Eearly Berriasian.
