Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the body satisfaction during in Spanish people in relation to sex, weight state and age. They have been involved 612 subjects living in the province of Jaen, 275 men (age=49.46 ± 21.18 years) and 337 women (age=48.03 ± 21.46 years). We have used the Body Shape Questionnaire (BSQ) in its Spanish version, the body mass index (BMI) and perceived health status. The prevalence of body dissatisfaction in the total sample is 22.20%, significant differences (p<.001) between men (10.2%) and women (32.0%). Body dissatisfaction is influenced by sex, BMI and age, there is an association between perceived health status and body satisfaction.
