Rendimiento hospitalario y benchmarking

Resumen

La medición del rendimiento de los centros hospitalarios y la elaboración de un ranking de los mismos a partir del anterior criterio requieren de modelos que tengan en cuenta la distinta naturaleza de las unidades de decisión a comparar, centrándose especialmente en las medidas de productividad y eficiencia. Este trabajo propone inicialmente la utilización de un análisis envolvente de datos (DEA) convencional con orientación input para analizar la eficiencia técnica de los hospitales generales de España. Además, para rea - lizar un ranking de aquellos hospitales catalogados como eficientes se ha empleado el método de la eficiencia cruzada (X-DEA). En este artículo también se propone un método para analizar el grado de importancia que tiene cada una de las dimensiones consideradas en el conjunto de los hospitales eficientes al objeto de poder identificar cuáles son los factores críticos de rendimiento, de forma que puedan ser empleados como una herramienta para la gestión hospitalaria que permita establecer programas de mejora. El tema cobra especial relevancia actualmente en España dadas las controversias generadas en el ámbito sanitario por los recortes de gasto público.
