Abstract
The first part of this article presents a general overview of the Almohad empire: general history; extent and magnitude of the movement; origin, territory and caliphs; doctrine, organization and society; the army; the economy; culture. In the second part we analyse the influence and weight of the Almohads in Jaén, in both the capital and the territories that are found within the present-day province, paying attention to different aspects: political, economic and financial, urban, social and cultural.
