Résumé

In this paper the concept of human being in a planet of limited resources (finite planet) is analyzed. As a result of the relationships with the environment in which we live, the authors delve into the biological, historical and socio-economic dimensions of the human being with a holistic approach in an interdependent network that has been called in 360º. From the point of view of sustainability and its three dimensions, the comparative observation of the importance of the three contexts in today’s society versus a sustainable society yields predictable (but not surprising) results. The economic component of sustainable development is considered to be more important than the natural and/or the social components. And even the revaluation of natural contexts happens almost exclusively by assigning a (tangible and measurable) added economic value, but in few cases by recognizing the social benefit involved in the sustainability per se. The incorporation of sustainability at all levels (and in all dimensions) of our society is a complicated task that begins to be implemented little by little through information, education and environmental volunteerism. Because at the end “we are what we do.”
