Abstract

A new species of leptonchid nematode, Caveonchus ferrisae sp. n., collected in natural areas in northern Iran, is described and illustrated. It is characterized by its bocfy 0.86-1.07 mm long, lip region cap-like but nearly continuous and 9-10 μm wide1 perioral area disc-like, odontostyle 10-11 μm long, neck 161-189 μm long, pharyngeal bulb 35-42 μm long or one-fifth (19-21 %) of total neck lencth, female genital system mono-opisi:hodelphic, anterior uterine sac 40-95 μm long, V= 41-46, tail short and roundecf, spicules 30-37 μm long and three or four, widely spaced, ventromedian supplements. The taxonomy of the genus Caveonchus, very especially its separation from Basirotyleptus, is discussed in depi:h, and a key to species identification as well as a compendlum of their morphometrics are provided.
