Abstract

This paper results from the reassessment of all the verses in the Koran mentioning the word water, as well as of those showing a terminological or conceptual relationship with this element, though not referring to it explicitly. Of the main fields of ritual, eschotology and cosmogony which convey an interest in water, our major concern will be with the third one. Dealing with these crucial Islamic aspects from the point of view of cosmogony requires the research of the presence of water at the beginning of Creation and its relationship with God, its role in the origin of life and animals, as well as in human beginnings.
