Resum

In this work we discuss the comparative technical study of the two versions of "The Virgin and Child" by Alonso Cano, one on display at the Museum of Fine Arts in Granada (the so-called "Virgen del Lucero") and the other at the Prado Museum. Both paintings suggest the technical influence of Tiziano, with Cano basing his compositions on an engraving by Durero. The Granada version, considered a studio work, is reassessed by this study as an autograph work. Moreover, slight changes in the Prado version imply that "The Virgin del Lucero" was the first painting of the two, and therefore, a model for it. The fact that the proportions of the figures in both canvasses are identical suggest that a tracing was used.
