Abstract

This study deals mainly with the aquifer units of the Tabular Cover of the Meseta, placing emphasis on the Liassic dolostones. This unit, that crops out at the northern sector, limits with the Prebetic thrusts to the east, with The Olistostromic units of the Guadalquivir basin to the south, and pinches out to the west. We set out to use complementary geophysical surveys and drilled boreholes information to determinate the nature and exten of this carbonate aquifer. Although in this region the Liassic dolostones dip toward the south-southeast, NE-SW folds affected by NE-SW and NW-SE faults can be deduced after detailed structural analysis. The upper confining units are composed of Miocene marls that range a maximum of 600 m in thickness, in south-eastern sectors. Transmissivity values ranges from 300 to 400 m2/day and the groundwater system flows NNW-SSE. Discharge in recently drilled boreholes ranges between 15 and 40 l/s.
