Abstract

Phytosociological study of Taeniathero-Aegilopion geniculatae alliance and its pasture value in the province of Jaén (Spain). Natural grasses communities provide a high quality fodder for a wide variety of livestock (goats, sheeps, horses, pigs, ). In this work, we point out several phytosociological associations that take place in the province of Jaén belonging to the alliance Taeniathero-Aegilopion geniculatae, by using the braun-blanquetist methodology derived from de Zürich- Montpellier school. The detailed study of the currently valid associations dominated by Aegilops geniculata, based on a correlation analysis, lead us to consider the grouping of syntaxa with the same rank (Medicago-Aegilopetum geniculatae, Ononido- Aegilopetum geniculatae and Bromo-Aegilopetum geniculatae), as well as some new status changes and combinations for the subassociations ononidetosum crotalarioidis and medicaginetosum littoralis. Finally, we show a comparative study of the pasture and fodder value of the aforementioned associations.
