Abstract
Claudius Claudianus' poetry aroused a deep interest among the humanists related to Pomponius Letus' circle. De Raptu Proserpinae was edited in Rome in 1493 by Marcelino Verardi. By that date he also published the play Fernandus servatus, written in collaboration with Carlo Verardi. As an epilogue they were followed by the invective in elegiac distichs entitled In Ruffum Regiae Maiestatis uiolatorem. In both cases, the argument is related to an event with a low historical importance but magnified,at that moment, by different reasons: we refer to the attempt upon Ferdinand the Catholic in Barcelona, in December, 1492. In the play we can trace reminiscences of Claudianus and in the invective his model is imposed through the use of metrics, similes, associations and so on.
