Abstract

We are living now a time of changes that has been with us since at least two decades. Curiously, the reason of that change is both the catalyst for it, information and technology are the agents of change, but at the same time factors that propagate and accelerate its effects. React globally is no easy task, it requires the consensus of governments of all kinds and in all spheres of society. Technological advances have led to a mass and seemingly uncontrolled production of information, a fact that can not leave indifferent to the educational agents and to the highest spheres of politics. Education must respond to the demands of the Information Society by educating students with the resources that are within their reach every day, which are part of their life, in short must teach them to use technology, not only operationally, but also in the safe and ethical use due to the scope and potential that today has even the simplest devices and services available to our students. Finally, an education is necessary in the analysis, treatment and critical attitude of the messages that are generated through the technologies of the information and of the communication, reason why we must pay attention to those abilities that equip students with tools to understand and correctly manage technology, information and knowledge The integration of Information and Communication Technologies in teaching and learning is a complex process involving many factors. There are many studies and assessments at the international level that provide information on the state of integration at different levels and the measures that are more or less effective in today's educational systems. In this thesis we intend to contribute to this end through the following objectives. Firstly, to define the situation of the integration of ICT in the Primary Education centers of the Región de Murcia, from the areas studied in the European study The Survey of School. And secondly, to extract weaknesses, threats, strengths and opportunities in the integration of ICT in the Primary Education centers of the Region of Murcia from the reflection and discussion of the results of the first phase of this research with participation of school principals and teachers of Primary Education. To achieve these objectives we have developed this research in two phases. In the first phase, of a quantitative nature, we have applied a survey to all primary education centers in the Región de Murcia. In the second qualitative phase, we held a discussion group with school principals and teachers to discuss the results of the first phase and jointly define the factors of a SWOT analysis of ICT integration. As a result, we have obtained a definite image of the integration of ICTs in primary education centers in the Región de Murcia, where correlations have been found between different variables and we have defined different groups of schools and teachers following the model of The Survey Of Schools. In addition, we have successfully applied a SWOT analysis in the educational field which can be very useful for decision making at any educational level.
