Abstract

ABSTRACT This research deals with the way in which photographic images approach Education. The study is structured around two axes. First, is presented a documentary research. We have generated a catalogue of archives, collections, libraries, professional image banks and artists. These data have been analysed in order to seek visual and thematic keys with which constitutes a framework for photographic analysis of education. These visual ideas have been compared with images taken by the own protagonists of education: students. Crossing these data, we have developed a conceptual and visual framework through which investigate photographically an educational place. From these keys an artistic study of two educational environments is presented: the Faculty of the Science of Education of the University of Granada and the School of Art, Design and Architecture from the Aalto University of Helsinki. This study is based on two methodological approaches: Artistic Research and Visual Arts Based Educational Research. The fundamental objective of the visual analysis of these two environments is to prove the effectiveness of the ideas elaborated previously in the analysis of the thesis statement, the written references and the rest of the data obtained from the artistic, print media and educational sources.
