Abstract

The first scientific campaign that was held on Giribaile plateau confirms the chronology of the town during the IV - III centuries B.C., with the aid of radiocarbon dating and the vio lent destruction process. The specific analysis based on Carpology, Anthracology, phytoliths, sediment micromorphology and physical and chemical analysis, have allowed us to comprehend, for the first time, a livestock structure and a storage room in which 39 amphorae were found. These amphorae were related to wine fermentation. Additiona lly, a virtual reconstitution of built spaces was made, emphasising the study of physical properties in a group of manufactured bricks, which are cold processed and with a high lime level. The huge dimensions of the town and of the spaces related to job processes made us reconsider the true importance of Giribaile as part of the pago of Cástulo, and its function in the alto Guadalquivir and Second Punic War.
