Abstract

The present environmental policies related to reduce greenhouse gases emissions and the growing commercial exchanged between countries force transportation industry to reduce the CO2 emissions in their fleets. A great part of the total energy expense in a ground vehicle, especially for heavy vehicles, is due to wind aerodynamic resistance or vehicle drag force. The rear vehicle part or base is known to cause a 25% of the total drag due to the formation of a low pressure zone provoked by the rear massive separation of flow that also generates a wake flow. The present thesis is devoted to design and improve drag reduction and wake control devices in order to enhance the aerodynamic performance of such type of vehicles.
