Abstract

Objective: To identify the physical, locomotion disorders and body composition in women with fibromyalgia in relation to their healthy peers. Analyze the effects of a 24-week physical training in pain, disease impact, physical capacity, body composition and quality of life of these patients. There have been four studies. 182 women have participated, 137 sick and 45 healthy. Results. The physical condition of women with fibromyalgia is less like healthy women and elderly. The weight status can not be associated to the healthy-sick condition. Disorders are presented in the kinematic parameters of locomotion in female patients. A physical training (dry / water) muscle strengthening exercises, endurance, coordination, balance and flexibility, three times a week, produces significant improvements in the variables analyzed. Conclusion: physical activity improves fibromyalgia impact and quality of life.
