Abstract

The present doctoral thesis presents a historical overview of the technology used in the manufacture of sugar cane, exposing a study from the industrial archeology of the relevant historical industrial heritage present in the old cane sugar factories, based on a study from the industrial engineering (mechanical engineering and industrial organization) and from engineering graphics. In particular, we have analyzed and compared from both points of view the two steam engines more widespread in the tropical Andalusian coast, particularly in the Costa Tropical, as the French company Fives-Lille and also the Scottish Mirrlees-Watson company, that they are in plants Nuestra Señora del Pilar in Motril and the factory of Nuestra Señora del Rosario in Salobreña, respectively.
