Palestinian women have struggled to free their country from the British mandate, and then later, from the Israeli occupation. They have maintained a sense of bravery and resilience despite their positionality, and a large percentage of them are highly educated, enabling them to fight oppression at a diplomatic and political level. Despite their strengths, these women still suffer immense injustices brought to them by the occupation, with many of them martyred, wounded or detained as political prisoners. The feminist movement in Palestine strives to create a draft for a new Penal Code and a new Personal Status Law. They also appeal for equality in the labor market, social environments, as well as in the decision-making process. In addition to that, they ask for a revised interpretation of Islamic laws that is more beneficial to women’s rights. These steps would assure that the status for women would improve on an economic, social and financial level.
