Abstract

The aim of this thesis is to improve learning of Genetics in Secondary Education. Previous ideas about genetics in students of Secondary Education has been identified before formal education. These ideas have been compared with these held a:fter formal education (analyzing the persistence of these ideas). Studenfs sources of information on genetic issues have been also studied. We have analyzed the meanings that the movies convey on Genetics, we have compared the meanings conveyed by movies with personal meanings of the students and we have determined whether the mistakes in the films could reinforce their preconceptions or configured them as a didactic obstacle. Finally, an instrument has been designed, implemented and evaluated based on the analysis of films to help explain the previous ideas of students, being an effective Genetics meaningful learning instrument.
