Abstract

A virtual reality and online therapy program for emotional wellbeing in chronic illness for children and adolescents: Space Academy. The aim of this paper is to show a psychological treatment delivered through a virtual reality program and a tele-psychology intervention for pain and coping with anxiety in pediatric patients in long-term care hospitalizations. A series of cases are presented as pilot study to provide some clinical evidence of efficacy and feasibility of this treatment strategic for this population, 6 patients with long-term illness and an average age of 12 years participated. Psychosocial and personality profiles, pain and anxiety levels (distress), emotional competence and resilience were assessed. Results show some improvement in emotional and acceptance competency, as well as a high acceptability and usability of the program.
