Abstract

This paper focuses in the origin of the Castilianization of the ancient Kingdom of Leon which begins in 1230, once the kingdoms from Leon and Castile come together in one kingdom with Ferdinand iii. We paid attention to a few characteristics from Leon?s dialect: the substitution of the implosive consonants for [l], the rhotacism and the lambdacism, the conservation of the group [mb], the palatalization of the group [ld], the graphic representation of [H] < -ll- and the evolution of the groups pl, kl, fl, on one hand, the evolution of the groups -lj-, -k?l-, -g?l-, -t?l-,on the other hand, and the evolution of the groups j, gj, dj, bj, ge,I, on another hand. We analyze when exactly during the 13th century begins the substitutions of these phenomenona for the typical Castilian solutions. This happened within the different regions of the ancient Kingdom of Leon: the eastern one, the central one and the western one.
