Abstract
The article presents the methodology and main results of a peer evaluation experience conducted with primary education students. The goal of this study was to demonstrate the applicability of rubrics for the objective assessment of specific and transversal skills implied in critical essay writing. The sample size used in this study was 118 students enrolled in a subject entitled "Knowledge of the Natural Environment in Primary Education", which is present in the senior course of the University’s primary education degree. Each critical essay was anonymously evaluated by a minimum of two students with the help of the scoring rubric which was provided by the professor. They then followed the same rubric and evaluated each student’s final essay. The statistical analysis of the results clearly supports the effectiveness of the rubric prepared for the evaluation of critical essays.
