Abstract

This doctoral thesis aims to know in depth what are the clinical and sociodemographic characteristics of mental patients who have continued readmissions in acute psychiatric unit of a general hospital and what risk factors present. As well as the conceptualizations that makes workers on this phenomenon. Throughout history it has been seen how the different forms of care for mental patients have been adapted to various media socioculturales, passing from the way asylum (pure institutionalization) the alleged community care (deinstitutionalization). Currently in Extremadura care combined methods are used, but it is one that forms the core of this thesis: the unity of acute psychiatric internment. And so I have tried because you can get to be seen in some patients as an open extension of the asylums system because their continued revenue may give rise to thinking about the lack of adaptive responses that these patients are faced with a society increasingly demanding or socially covert mechanisms not to give answers to the problems of minorities. Therefore in this thesis the problem of readmissions for mental patients in acute Extremadura, addressing in greater depth the characteristics of them will be addressed as well as the particularities of the institutional resources they use when society considered to have exceeded the line with the provisions as normal social behavior.
