Abstract

The research being presented aims to gather both professional and personal information about female physical education teachers who were teaching in Faculties of Education in Spain during two decades. The academic courses being studied, from 1990 to 2010, cover the period of time in which the profile of primary school teacher specialist in physical education was implemented (RD 1.440/1991). Our work is a cross-sectional descriptive empirical study in which an instrument for gathering information entitled "Questionnaire about personal and professional characteristics of female Physical Education teachers in Faculties of Education" was designed, elaborated, validated and applied to the whole population being studied. The data obtained were then quantified, analyzed and discussed. The conc1usions bring interesting knowledge about the characteristics of female physical education teachers during that period and also about their influence in primary school teacher training
